Cinnamon, a perfect winter spice

Cinnamon is a spice popular during cold months, mostly due to its distinct scent that evokes coziness and familiarity, but there is also a bit of magic involved. Cinnamon actually has the ability to increase your body temperature! It contains compounds like cinnamaldehyde, which can increase your body temperature by stimulating circulation. This thermogenic effect helps your body generate more heat, making you feel warmer.

Not only will you feel warmer, but you might also burn some calories – cinnamon is considered a natural fat burner.

Cinnamon rolls are the perfect choice if you like sweet breakfasts combined with a heartwarming drink such as coffee, cocoa, or tea. Typically enjoyed as a breakfast treat or dessert, these rolls are made from a sweet yeast dough that is rolled out, spread with butter, sugar, and cinnamon, then baked until golden. The result is a spiral-shaped pastry with a warm, gooey filling.

The cinnamon roll has roots in various cultures, with some tracing it back to Sweden, where it’s called a kanelbulle. Swedish cinnamon buns are often spiced with cardamom in addition to cinnamon, and they’re a staple of fika, the Swedish coffee break tradition. In the United States, cinnamon rolls became particularly popular in the 20th century, especially as part of breakfast or brunch in cafés and bakeries.

In fact, cinnamon buns are so loved in Sweden that they even have a festival dedicated to them. How about that love for a pastry?

Pistachio in a breakfast

How do you make cinnamon rolls even tastier? Add pistachios!

A pistachio is a type of nut that comes from the pistachio tree (Pistacia vera), which is native to regions of Central Asia and the Middle East. It’s known for its distinctive green and purple-tinged shell, with the edible seed inside being a small, oval nut.

Pistachio spread is a beloved addition to cakes and croissants, and it pairs wonderfully with our cinnamon roll. Since pistachios are nuts – and we all know nuts are rich in healthy acids – they make a perfect complement to a sweet dessert like a cinnamon roll. Oleic and linoleic acids found in pistachios help regulate blood sugar, creating a better balance in your meal.

Pistachios have been enjoyed for a very long time. The first recorded use of pistachios dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, in what is now modern-day Iraq and Iran, around 3,000 BCE. Pistachios were highly valued by ancient civilizations including the Persians, Greeks, and Romans. The Romans even called them the “nut of the Persian king”due to their association with Persian royalty.

The Bible also mentions pistachios as a gift brought by Jacob’s sons when they visited Egypt, suggesting pistachios were known in the region around 2,000 BCE.

Considering this long history, it’s no wonder pistachios are considered a royal food. Jo & The Sisters breakfast bar is dedicated to choosing the best ingredients for our guests. Our pistachio cinnamon roll is truly a breakfast worthy of kings. Carefully chosen ingredients come together to create a pastry that will brighten your mood from the early morning.
